The assessment of nutritional risk is made by a trained health professional, usually at the local WIC office, at no cost to you. Undocumented immigrants are eligible as long as they reside in the state.

Classes are led by a trained breastfeeding counselor. The WIC program also offers breastfeeding classes each Thursday in Milton, with the time alternating between the morning and afternoon. The group is open to all pregnant and/or breastfeeding mothers in the community, as well as nursing babies and toddlers, even if they are not enrolled in WIC. the 1st Thursday of the month at our Milton location at 5527 Stewart Street. Our breastfeeding support group, The Milky Way, meets at 10:00 a.m. Our breastfeeding coordinator and peer counselors are available by phone seven-days-a-week to assist mothers in making informed decisions about infant feeding. These are key nutrients commonly lacking in the diets of the WIC targeted population.īreastfeeding promotion and support are integral parts of the WIC program. These foods are rich in protein, iron, calcium, and vitamins A and C. WIC provides supplemental, nutritious foods for low to moderate income pregnant, breastfeeding and postpartum women, infants and children from birth to age five who are at nutritional risk. WIC is the special supplemental nutrition program for women, infants and children.
